Grease fittings, usually called Zerk fittings, are metal fittings installed on mechanical systems. Through the use of a grease gun, lubricant is delivered to the bearing under medium to high pressure without spilling or leakage. They have been used since the 1920s and are far from obsolete. This type of lubrication and bearing setup is simple, economical and long-lasting. Although the nozzle process sounds a bit complicated, let's try to explain more to help you understand it better.

The grease fittings were patented by Oscar U. Zerk in 1929, hence the name Zerk fittings, and the assignee is Alemite Manufacturing Corporation. A ball check valve that accepts grease under the pressure of a grease gun already exists, but Zerk's accessories are an improved style that is not susceptible to dust.
In short, grease accessories can help you inject grease lubricant into the wear points of different types of machinery (including cars, trucks, industrial plant equipment, etc.). It was introduced as an improved method for lubricating moving parts. They come in many types, including embedded grease joints, ball joints, button head joints, hydraulic couplings, safety joints, etc. They can be made of stainless steel, brass and Monel materials.
The grease nipple is a small grease nipple screwed into the hole. The tip of the nipple also has a ball bearing to prevent the entry of grease and contaminants. The nozzle connector on the grease nipple is connected to the grease gun. Inside the nipple, there is a small ball suspended by a spring. When grease is pushed into the joint, pressure is exerted on the ball, thereby compressing the spring. It is used as a valve that opens under pressure and allows grease to pass through the joint.
When the grease flow stops, the ball returns to its original position and the fitting is closed. If you notice grease leaking from the joint connector after lubrication, there may be particles preventing the valve from forming a proper seal. Please note that in this case, you should not apply grease because it will force particles into the bearing, causing wear and damage. In this case, remove the grease nipple and replace it with a new one.
Grease guns are common garage or workshop tools used for lubrication. The standard grease gun forms a right angle to help you press the grease into the grease nipple or grease nipple, and usually can hold a full tube of grease. There are 4 types of grease guns:

There are 3 measurement methods to determine the lubricating nipple thread, including whether it is straight or tapered, the number of threads per inch (pitch), and the thread diameter.
You should also know how much grease should be applied to the accessories. Remember that the amount of grease in the accessories depends on the size of the connected parts. As a general rule, you can apply grease until you start to feel resistance when pumping, and remember not to apply grease until it seeps out of bearing seals or other parts.
