Mahr has refined the proven Marameter 844 K variable plug measurement system and developed new materials, processes and options to ensure the best performance, linearity and accuracy.

Mahr Inc. is launching an updated version of its Marameter 844 K series of internal diameter measuring probes. This system is used for comparative measurement of very small holes ranging from 1mm to 20mm. When measuring multiple diameters in a hole, the probe can identify shape errors, such as ellipticity and taper.

Mahr has refined the proven Marameter 844 K variable plug measurement system and developed new materials, processes and options to ensure the best performance, linearity and accuracy. Due to their constant measuring force on sensitive contacts, the 844 K plugs can be automatically centered and reduce the operator's influence. The method of determining the diameter is to zero the plug gauge with the setting standard, and then measure the hole by sweeping the plug gauge through the hole. The reversal point or minimum recorded value provides the aperture. Despite new designs and improvements, the new probes and accessories are compatible and interchangeable with the previous generation Marameter 844 K probes and accessories.

The new Marameter 844 K probe constitutes a comprehensive modular system, including measuring head, drive needle, indicator or probe measuring bracket, depth extension, right angle attachment and setting ring. The new Marameter probe is made of hardened steel, which is very suitable for hole measurement at the manufacturing point and has an extremely long service life. The Marameter 844 K probe is available in three versions according to application requirements.

· Marameter 844 K-for through-hole applications; with hard chrome-plated measuring surface

· Marameter 844 KC-for through-hole applications; measuring surface and inner edge with diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating. DLC provides higher corrosion resistance, wear protection and low friction for sensitive or abrasive surfaces such as non-ferrous metals and aluminum alloys-its unique color helps identify these long-wear probes

· Marameter 844 KS-for blind hole applications; hard chrome plated measuring surface

The measuring surface of all 844 K probes is polished, and the friction coefficient is very low, which can prevent damage or scratches on the surface of precision-machined sensitive holes. This helps prevent potential damage to the finished product. Mahr's 844 KC is coated with DLC and can provide a long service life even in the highest production operating environment. However, if the plug eventually begins to wear, DLC's unique dark color can provide a visual indication of surface wear.

“The Marameter 844 K system with internal measuring probes is versatile and can be used in a variety of applications, inspection rooms or manufacturing sites to improve accuracy, reduce wear and waste,” said Director George Schuetz of Mahr's precision measuring tools. "The redesigned and upgraded Marameter 844 K measurement system provides a longer life and higher performance for this series of plugs that our customers have trusted."
